There's nothing head-in-the-clouds about Bournemouth – and that's not only because the lovely weather on the south coast means there rarely are any clouds. The university is firmly rooted in the professional application of education. It works closely with key employers and courses are designed with future professional success in mind. The 17,000 or so students enjoy all the benefits of living in a tourist town, touted by some as the new Brighton, no less. It's sunny and boasts some of the best beaches in the UK – great if you're a fan of watersports, or even just of lying on the sand eating an ice cream.

Fees
£3,225 for full-time undergraduate courses in 2009-10.

Bursaries
Every full-time undergraduate UK/EU student (except those on NHS courses) who meets the income criteria will receive a cash bursary. Other bursaries and a range of scholarships also available.

Accommodation
The university expects to offer all new students somewhere to live. All university-managed accommodation is within five miles of the two campuses. In September 2009, a new student block opens in the town centre, right opposite the student union's night club – handy, that. Costs average £75 to £98 a week.

Facilities
Award-winning learning facilities. There's a Sony HD TV studio (the only one at a UK university) and the National Centre for Computer Animation. There's a great county-standard cricket ground, and unrivalled sailing and watersports facilities.

Transport
There are inter-campus buses, extensive cycle routes in town, ferry cross-channel services, and rail and road links. And Bournemouth International airport, of course.
